  • OnePlus 8T release date, price, features and news

As we know, it’s a common practice for tech companies to release two flagship lines for the year and OnePlus makes no exception, even though in its first years, it released only one device a year. Despite the challenging situation of 2020, we will be seeing the OnePlus 8T and possibly the OnePlus 8T Pro. As the flagship smartphone market competition rises and the economic situation is very unpredictable, it's maybe time for OnePlus to shine with its great quality products and compatible pricing.

We have compiled here all the information we currently know about the yet unannounced OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 8T Pro. A lot of it is based on rumors and leaks, or expectations for the upcoming flagship devices, so take it with a grain of salt. We regularly update this article when new information is available, so feel free to come back and check it again.

OnePlus 8T, 8T Pro Release date

The OnePlus 8 series were released on April 14 and if OnePlus decides to follow the trend from previous years, it’s expected that the new OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 8T Pro are going to be announced sometime in the fall of 2020. Since 2016, OnePlus has pretty much respected its schedule to release the T version of their flagships around September or October, so we would expect the OnePlus 8T and 8T Pro to be released sometime during October 2020 globally and in the US. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, there can be some understandable delay.

A recent leak now states that there will be no OnePlus 8T Pro this year. According to tipster Max J. , OnePlus has decided to concentrate on the cheaper OnePlus 8T and skip the OnePlus 8T Pro entirely.

However, a contradicting post on OnePlus' website (which has now been removed) showed a user manual for the OnePlus 8T Pro. This clearly shows that rumors about the OnePlus 8T Pro could be wrong and we still might see the Pro version of the OnePlus 8T.

    OnePlus 8T, 8T Pro Price

This year, OnePlus surprised us with a higher-than-usual price for the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. It looks like OnePlus is now really stepping in the big flagship vendor arena, most likely with aims to rival Samsung and Apple smartphones. The OnePlus 8T will probably be some $50 to $100 more expensive than the current OnePlus 8, which starts at $699, and the OnePlus 8T Pro should be slightly more expensive than the OnePlus 8 Pro. The prices are estimated at $799 for the OnePlus 8T and around $999 for the OnePlus 8T Pro. Unfortunately, no prices have been announced or leaked at this point.

    OnePlus 8T, 8T Pro Specs

Recently, a major leak detailed a lot of OnePlus 8T and 8T Pro's specifications. Thanks to leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer in partnership with PriceBaba we now have almost everything there is to be known about the OnePlus 8T specs:

    •  Display: 6.55 inches, 120Hz display refresh rate
    • Camera: quad-camera system: main sensor 48MP, 16MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth sensor and 5MP macro
    • Hardware: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+, 8 or 12 GB of RAM
    • Storage: base model 128GB
    • Battery: 4,500mAh, 65W fast charging
    • OS: Android 11, OxygenOS 11

    OnePlus 8T, 8T Pro Design

This year, OnePlus 8T seems more inspired by the OnePlus Nord than the OnePlus 8, featuring a big, rectangular camera bump as can be seen on the renders down below.

The highly-anticipated smartphone is surrounded by thin bezels and features a tiny punch-hole selfie camera on the left hand side of its beautiful display.

The front and rear panels are glass, while the OnePlus' aluminum frame houses a power button and Alert Slider on the right, a volume rocker on the left, and the USB-C port on the bottom. Most likely, the bottom-firing speaker will produce stereo sound together with the earpiece speaker, for immersive media consumption or gaming.

Unfortunately this year we will not be seeing a McLaren edition of the handset.

    OnePlus 8T, 8T Pro Display

Rumors and leaks show that OnePlus 8T will come equipped with a gorgeous 6.55-inch AMOLED display, which will reportedly feature a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and will support a Full-HD+ resolution. We expect the OnePlus 8T to not lack any color accuracy or dynamics on the beautiful display.

    OnePlus 8T, 8T Pro Camera

This year’s OnePlus 8 sports a triple camera setup, while the OnePlus 8 Pro has a quad camera setup. Rumors show that a quad-camera system may be found on the back of the OnePlus 8T as well; however, this time its design brings a different feel to the smartphone. The main camera is expected to be 48MP, accompanied by a 16MP ultra-wide camera, a 2-megapixel depth sensor and an updated 5-megapixel macro camera.

According to rumors, the camera software on the OnePlus 8T will also be improved.

Recent rumors point us to the possibility of the OnePlus 8T featuring an improved camera sensor of 64MP, although some other leakers insist on 48MP, so we have to wait and see which one it is. In the case of 64MP main sensors, users might be asked to switch to the 16MP mode for a better dynamic range in low light surroundings. In contrast, the OnePlus 8 flagships capture 12MP images by default.

    OnePlus 8T, 8T Pro Hardware

The OnePlus 8T is expected to feature the newly-released Snapdragon 865 Plus. In recent years, Qualcomm released a slightly-refreshed, gaming-oriented version of its flagship processor and that’s what the OnePlus 7T came with last year (the Snapdragon 855 Plus). Same applies to this year's chipset, which will be a slightly overclocked version of the flagship Snapdragon 865.

The current OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro variants come with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and internal storage of 128 GB, so we expect those specs to remain the same for the yet unannounced OnePlus 8T and 8T Pro.  Recently, a new entry was spotted on Geekbench showing a device carrying the model number KB2001 and powered by a Qualcomm chip codenamed "Kona," and it's likely the Snapdragon 865 Plus and the OnePlus 8T. It has 8GB of RAM and achieved 912 points in the single-core test and 3288 points in the multi-core test. Below you can check the results that were leaked:

    OnePlus 8T, 8T Pro Battery

This year’s OnePlus 8 comes with a solid 4,300mAh battery and the OnePlus 8 Pro packs an even bigger battery, a 4,510mAh one. Last year, OnePlus released a slightly upgraded battery capacity with the OnePlus 7T, which added additional 100mAh of capacity to the OnePlus 7’s 3,700mAh, thus standing at 3,800mAh.

If OnePlus decides to follow this trend as well, it’s possible that the company will provide a bigger battery for the 8T and 8T Pro, something in the likes of 4,500mAh for the 8T and slightly more for the 8T Pro. Recent leaks confirm the battery cell of OnePlus 8T is most likely going to be at 4,500mAh.

Additionally, rumors suggest that the OnePlus 8T might feature a crazy-fast 65W wired charging to completely eliminate that battery anxiety, and we can't wait to test it out.

    OnePlus 8T, 8T Pro 5G support

Both the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro are 5G-enabled devices, so we expect nothing less of the fall variants of OnePlus’ flagships.
Additionally, it's expected the OnePlus 8T will come with Android 11 out of the box.
